Pope Paul VI was originally born Giovanni Battista Enrico Antonio Maria Montini on 26 September 1897 in the village of Concesio in Lombardy, Italy. He was baptised on 30 September 1897. His father, Giorgio Montini, was a lawyer, journalist, director of the Catholic Action, and member of the Italian Parliament. His mother, Giudetta Alghisi, was from a family of rural nobility. He had two brothers, one of whom became a physician, and the other a lawyer and politician.
Giovanni Battista Montini attended the Cesare Arici school, run by Jesuits, and later received a diploma from the Arnaldo da Brescia public school in Brescia in 1916. He entered the seminary to become a Catholic priest that same year and was ordained on 29 May 1920 in Brescia. He celebrated his first Mass at the Santa Maria delle Grazie in Brescia and later studied in Milan, as well as at the Gregorian University and the University of Rome La Sapienza. In 1922, he entered the Secretariat of State, working under Giuseppe Pizzardo.
In honour of Pope Paul VI, originally named Giovanni Battista Montini, the Christian Brothers named the school Montini Catholic High School. Construction of the school buildings took place in 1965 and 1966, and in September 1966, the school opened its doors to 217 freshmen. The first commencement exercises were held on 1 June 1970.
